What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking someone who:
Is an enthusiastic and committed teacher who will plan and execute high quality lessons to ensure progress by all students (the department is also well resourced, and colleagues share resources regularly)
Will assist in the development of the curriculum and be prepared to share good practice across the Faculty
Will support students in the classroom and provide formative feedback for assessments so that pupils can revisit their work and make improvements
What the school offers its staff
All pupils in Years 7 to 9 are timetabled for Drama lessons. GCSE Drama is offered as an option in Years 10 and 11 and many students go on to join the Drama A Level course in the Sixth Form.
Drama is taught from the Department's Scheme of Work. Presentational work allows ample opportunity for pupils to be given a good grounding in Theatre Arts. Improvisation and scripted work form an integral part of the Drama syllabus and the basics of the design elements necessary for the planning and presentation of a successful performance are taught.
The teaching of Drama is based on providing a secure, disciplined framework within which pupils can explore the human condition and build strategies for dealing with life. Teachers work towards providing a climate within which real negotiation and creativity can take place.
Pupils at Key Stage Four and Five have Drama folders in which they record and analyse their work. There are formative and summative assessments throughout the year for every pupil.
The technical facilities and accommodation of the department are excellent.
Visiting Theatre Groups, Workshops and trips to the theatre are an integral part of the Department and examination courses. The examination results of the Department are consistently excellent.
The School has a very high standard of extra-curricular work with various events taking place each year. Recent productions have been “The Little Mermaid”, “Oliver”, and “The Wizard of Oz”. Our Black Box Theatre group and Year 12 students are currently taking part in the National Connections Festival 2025.
There are various Drama Clubs for those pupils who have an interest in Drama but who do not wish to perform in the School's public events as well as other extra-curricular activities to extend students theatrical and technical skills.
Opportunity for responsibility for the right candidate.
