What skills and experience we're looking for

The Norton Knatchbull School is looking for a full time/part time (min 0.5 FTE) Teacher of Drama. This is a permanent position. We welcome applicants from either selective or wide ability settings, who are keen to work with high achieving and motivated students in a strong department with a national reputation of excellence. The successful applicant will be expected to teach up to A-Level and support some of our extracurricular provision. Working technical knowledge of lighting and sound equipment would be an advantage. This post is suitable for an ECT or equally a more experienced colleague looking for a new challenge. We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who can inspire both colleagues and students and lead by example.

The content of the Drama curriculum is what it means to be human. The emphasis in all lessons is on making meaning through the Drama form rather than teaching a set of skills-based exercises. Our students are challenged to make a comparison between their own experiences and the lives of others across different cultural and historical contexts. Students are also challenged to engage with and interpret characters from dramatic texts across theatrical history. Allied to the content, our students are equipped with the dramatic techniques to communicate a role and create dramatic work, from learning the effect of emphasis in a line in Year 7 to the distancing techniques of Epic Theatre in Year 10. Our curriculum aims to enable our students with the communication skills to present a confident version of themselves in the wider world.
