What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, forward-thinking Drama enthusiast to join an exceptionally vibrant department. Performing Arts is a vital component to our curriculum in KS3–5.

You will bring new, exciting initiatives and ideas that will enhance the performing arts experience our students receive. Your lessons will be fun and engaging and will raise the self-esteem and confidence of our students. We see Performing Arts as a vehicle to creating well-rounded students. It is vital that your teaching philosophy and beliefs align with this.

Part of the role will include having a major part in the production of whole-school performances and smaller-group examination performances. There is also the opportunity to enhance our extra-curricular clubs and off-site experiences and performances.

In addition, you will be Head of Learning for our new Year 7 students (from September). You will work closely with the Inclusion team and line manage an Assistant Head of Learning, as well as a tutor team, to ensure all students get the best possible pastoral care throughout their time at Highcrest, sharing responsibility for the learning and personal development of all students. You will move through the years with your year group to ensure they maximise their potential.

The role includes leading and monitoring a tutor time programme and organising and monitoring Life Lessons, as well as taking a strategic lead to ensure the students display the highest level of attendance, punctuality and behaviour throughout school.

Are you a team player, passionate about education and social mobility? Do you want to be a pivotal part of improving opportunities for students and increasing their learning and social experiences? Do you want to work in an environment which prioritises staff and student health and well-being? Then please apply now!

What the school offers its staff

Highcrest offers both an excellent induction and an extensive CPD package for more experienced teachers. This provision of training has been praised as outstanding by an external assessor and highlighted in the local press.

“Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable…”. Ofsted Report February 2020

A thriving and friendly academy in the heart of the community, with staff recognition schemes, a free gym and staff sports teams to counter the free breakfast, “Friday Treats” and on-site coffee shop! We also offer the possibility of shared staff living accommodation and on-site parking.

Further details about the role

Our Ofsted Report February 2020 says, “The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere” and “Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘aspire and achieve’”.

All who work at the academy reinforce our six virtues linked to our motto (Ambition, Sensitivity, Purpose, Integrity, Resilience and Eloquence), helping us instil a culture of excellence that runs throughout every strand of our Academy.

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system and a wide range of clubs, visits and trips help to bring our whole school community together.

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.

The Highcrest Academy is fully committed to safeguarding children (policies on web). All members of staff are in a “regulated” role under the Vetting & Barring Scheme and have to be DBS cleared prior to employment.
