TEACHER OF ENGLISH
Required from Wednesday 23rd April 2024
We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of English to inspire, motivate and challenge our wonderful pupils.
Our school is on an exciting journey. We are over-subscribed and expanding, with over 40% of pupils coming from beyond the designated catchment area.
Salary: As per Pay Policy depending on candidates starting point on the pay scale (M1-UPS)
English Department Resources:
9 teaching rooms situated adjacent to each other
An extensive range of class reading books
Digital Projector or Interactive White Board in all rooms
iPads and Chromebooks are available for each English teaching room
Visualisers in every classroom
Accelerated Reader
Excellent library and access to the school’s ICT suites
Curriculum Allocation:
Pupils in Key Stage 3 are taught units of work comprising both English Language and English Literature activities. Pupils currently have 7 x 1 hour lessons over the two week timetable cycle. Accelerated Reader is integral to all lessons with 15 minutes reading at the start of lessons and a fortnightly library lesson.
Every pupil in the year group in Years 7 - 11 is taught English simultaneously. Years 7-11 are taught in mixed ability groups where appropriate with a nurture group in year groups where there is requirement for this. Where support is needed, pupils in Years 7-10 have additional lessons of English Key Skills. In Key Stage 4, pupils study the Eduqas English Language and English Literature specifications. All pupils study both English Language and English Literature. Pupils in Key Stage 4 currently have 9 lessons of English each two weeks.
In addition to the formal curriculum we undertake a number of other activities:
Regular theatre visits and visiting theatre groups
Visiting authors – with whom we have organised reading and writing workshops
Regular magazine writing activities
Participation in national writing competitions
