About this Role

We are seeking a motivated and committed Teacher of English to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of the English department at St Mary’s College, working within a highly ambitious and supportive team that is passionate about teaching and delivering the highest standard of education for the students in our care.

We welcome applications from enthusiastic, reflective, and positive practitioners who share our vision that no child is left behind and who are committed to delivering an ambitious, word-rich curriculum.

The successful candidate will be able to teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, and ideally Key Stage 5. Strong pedagogical knowledge, alongside a commitment to professional development and a willingness to continually learn and upskill, are essential.

At our outstanding Catholic school, we are proud to offer a supportive and enriching environment where both staff and students thrive. As a Teacher of English, you will benefit from:

A strong and inclusive Catholic ethos rooted in gospel values.

  • Outstanding leadership and support, with a dedicated English department and experienced mentors for professional development.
  • Excellent CPD opportunities
  • A very well-resourced curriculum, with the freedom to bring creativity and depth to your teaching.
  • A collaborative and welcoming staff culture, where your voice is valued and wellbeing is prioritised.
  • Modern facilities and technology, supporting innovative and engaging teaching practices.

In our most recent OFSTED inspection (October 2023), St Mary’s College was judged as OUTSTANDING in all areas, with the inspectors stating: ‘St Mary’s College is a highly ambitious school,’ with this ambition evident, ‘in all areas of the curriculum’.

St Mary’s College was awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark in 2017 which was redesignated in 2023 in perpetuity.

St Mary’s College and St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Academy Trust are immensely proud of all our achievements, not least:

Key Stage 4: Most recent Progress 8 score +0.73

Key Stage 5: Leading regional provider post 16 in the top 2% of all post-16 providers in the country.

St Mary’s College is one of the top schools in the country for student progress and was awarded the Sunday Times Secondary Comprehensive School of the Year 2024 Award.
