Teacher of English job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious and passionate Teacher of English to join our well‑established and successful English department on a fixed‑term basis for one academic year from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge or an ECT eager to begin their career in a supportive and dedicated department. Our ECTs follow the DfE Early Career Framework and benefit from both a subject mentor and an Induction Tutor.

We are looking for a teacher who can inspire a love of reading, writing and literature, and who has a genuine enthusiasm for working with young people. You will take great satisfaction in helping students develop their skills, confidence and academic success. The ability to teach GCSE Film studies would be advantageous but is not essential.

As part of this role, you will also undertake the role of form tutor, supporting student welfare and academic progress.

  • Confident in using assessment and data to monitor progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.
  • An effective classroom practitioner, able to build a positive and purposeful learning environment.

About the English Department

The English Department is well‑established, collaborative and ambitious, with a strong commitment to ensuring students of all abilities are supported, challenged and inspired.

At Key Stage 3, students follow a broad and engaging curriculum that develops:

  • Reading for meaning and enjoyment
  • Writing for a range of purposes and audiences
  • Spoken language skills
  • Secure grammatical knowledge

At Key Stage 4, students study Edexcel GCSE English Language and Edexcel GCSE English Literature and also have the opportunity to study Eduqas GCSE Film Studies, where they explore a diverse range of films, creative techniques and critical approaches.

At Key Stage 5, students can study AQA A Level English Literature and AQA A Level English Language.

Hampton Gardens is an 11-19 free school which opened in September 2017 to an initial intake of 180 Year 7 students. When full, the school will accommodate 1200 students in years 7-11 and 300 students in Sixth Form.

Hampton Gardens is part of the Hampton Academies Trust who also run the highly successful and popular Hampton College all-through school, Hampton Lakes Primary School and Dogsthorpe Infant School. HAT schools have very close links and some shared staff.
