Full Time Teacher of English and Drama - One Year Fixed Term

Required from September 2026

ECT/MPS/UPS (London Fringe) (£34,398 - £52,490)

We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

Are you an English or Drama teacher looking to work in a thriving school community where excellence, care, and high expectations sit at the heart of everything we do?

St Mary’s Catholic School is seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher of English and Drama to join our popular and well‑established departments. This is a one‑year full time fixed‑term post from September 2026.

English and Drama are thriving subjects at St Mary’s, with strong uptake across Key Stages and well‑established GCSE and A‑Level pathways. Students are engaged, articulate, and ambitious, and both departments benefit from experienced staff, high‑quality resources, and a culture of collaboration.

The school offers excellent facilities, including modernised teaching rooms and two dedicated Drama spaces: a black‑box studio and a traditional performance hall, supported by dressing rooms and a well‑resourced costume store. The successful candidate will teach English and Drama primarily at Key Stage 3, across the full ability range, and will be supported by strong departmental leadership and shared planning.

Recent inspection feedback recognises the school’s ambitious and well‑structured curriculum, strong relationships between staff and students, and a culture where pupils are confident, respectful, and eager to learn. Ofsted noted that teaching supports pupils to become articulate and knowledgeable, and that leaders place a strong emphasis on professional development and staff wellbeing.

St Mary’s students go on to study at a wide range of universities, including Russell Group institutions, or pursue specialist pathways such as training at leading drama schools including East 15, ArtsEd, and Italia Conti. The school has a strong reputation for nurturing both academic success and personal development.

This post would be equally suitable for an experienced teacher or an Early Career Teacher (ECT). St Mary’s has a thriving and well‑established ECT cohort, supported by a strong mentoring and induction programme that ensures new teachers are well guided, challenged appropriately, and able to flourish. Experienced colleagues benefit from opportunities to share expertise, develop leadership skills, and contribute to curriculum development. Whether your tenure with us is for one year or longer, there are clear opportunities for professional growth and career development within the school and the wider St Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy Trust.
