An exciting opportunity has arisen for a candidate of exceptional ability to join our English Department as a Teacher of Key stage 3-5 English in this over-subscribed and successful selective school.

The school has an existing reputation for high quality education with a relentless focus upon high expectations and aspirations. We are a friendly, dynamic and innovative school and pride ourselves on our commitment to ensuring student progress through high quality teaching and learning provision for all. The successful applicant will share these values and play an active part in delivering on this commitment.

This role requires a strong understanding of how to engage, support and encourage students in order to achieve high standards. You will play a key role in supporting the corporate responsibility for the well-being, education and discipline of all students by: following designated programmes of study, carrying out necessary assessments, maintaining discipline in accordance with school policies, working closely with other teachers in the same curriculum area and engaging in continuous professional development in the relevant areas.

We believe that the study of English and Literature should provide our students with both an independence of mind, and the essential communication skills necessary in their future lives. In the future, we see ourselves taking the department and the students forward, both in terms of attainment and results, extra-curricular activities, innovation and challenge, and also in developing those softer skills within our students that the study of English and Literature allows us to explore.

To achieve this, we are looking for a teacher who:

  • Has the ability to demand respect from others
  • Can be creative, flexible and innovative
  • Be encouraging, supportive and positive in the development of students.
  • A readiness to reflect on, evaluate and improve practice and to hold themselves and others to account
  • Has a high level of integrity, honesty and fairness
  • Has the ability to initiate and manage change
  • An ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and sensitivity
  • Ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders

Why work at Gravesend Grammar? Some of our Trust benefits include:

  • Free access to a wide range of outside support including counselling services, physiotherapy sessions and fitness classes
  • Unlimited access for you and your family to 24/7 GP telephone consultations
  • Eye test reimbursement
  • Discounts including access to a blue light card
  • Trust-wide commitment to your Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Gravesend Grammar School is an 11-18 selective boys grammar school with girls admitted to the Sixth Form. The most recent Ofsted Inspection (June 2015) judged the School as ‘Outstanding’.
We became an Academy on 1st August 2011 as part of The Decus Educational Trust (TDET).

The school is currently going through a period of expansion. We have built a 10 million pound facility to accommodate the additional students. We will continue to rise year on year until we admit 1500 students (7 forms of entry). This is a really exciting time in the history of the school and has the potential to provide succession opportunities for colleagues that want to progress in their careers.
We have a committed staff who provide opportunity and challenge in a caring environment and strive to ensure the students achieve the very best they can at all times. We also have strong working partnerships with parents, governors and the local community.
We are served by excellent transport links; by road the A2 and M25, and by rail Gravesend train station (on the HS1 line) is a short walk from the School and Ebbsfleet International train station is only a 10 minute drive. We also have the opportunity for on-site staff accommodation.
