Teacher of English job summary
Biddenham is
an 11-19, oversubscribed school that, as we expand, is entering the next phase
of its development. Due to our popularity, and as part of our £4.5 million
building programme, we are growing and strengthening our already high
performing staff team who, by 2025, will be working with 1600 students.
Commencing January 2024, we seek to appoint a well-qualified, creative and inspirational Teacher of English to join our outstanding team.
A TLR for an additional second in department will be advertised in January 2024.
The post holder
requires strong knowledge of English Literature and Language, with experience
of teaching at least two key stages.
English is taught as a compulsory subject up to Year 11. We study the
AQA GCSE English Literature and Language and AQA A-level English Literature. The department also leads on the Level 3 Extended
Project Qualification, alongside Level 2 retake English Language and Literature
and Functional Skills English for Post-16 students. There are many opportunities to teach a wide
range of age groups.
The English Department is well resourced and is committed to extending
and improving its range of opportunities for students. Our Key Stage 3 English
curriculum includes Oracy teaching, which is delivered through core themes that
connect the whole curriculum. Key Stage
4 is taught as a combination of English Language and Literature, through set
GCSE texts.
The successful candidate
will be an excellent and approachable
classroom practitioner, able to adapt learning in order to secure the best

of a whole school collaborative teaching and learning approach.
The school sees the Form
Tutor as a key role in the support, development and welfare of the students and
teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same standards and
commitment as their subject role.
As a school we offer:
Exceptional professional development and career
progression,
A supportive environment for ECTs allowing them to thrive,
Positive working relationships at all levels (with a healthy dose of humour!),
A supportive Leadership Team,
A genuine focus on staff wellbeing.
