What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a talented and skilled Teacher of English to join a successful and experienced department in our Church of England 11-18 comprehensive school.

Hutton is a single sex boys’ school from 11-16 with 689 students currently on roll. The school is co-educational in the Sixth Form with 134 students currently on roll. The school was judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in May 2022 and ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by SIAMS in February 2018.

The English Department at Hutton consistently produces outstanding results at both GCSE and A Level. Ofsted noted that “Pupils make outstanding progress in English... This is a result of strong teaching, effective assessment and interventions”.

The English Department currently follow EDUQAS at GCSE and AQA at A Level; subjects within the department studied at A Level are English Literature and English Combined, both of which are popular choices with students.

Our success can be credited to our hard-working students, supportive parents and committed and dedicated staff both within the English Department and school as a whole.

We are looking for a teacher who can use their skills and knowledge to motivate, support and inspire our students to achieve their full potential. There is likely to be the opportunity to teach at A Level for the appropriate candidate; therefore previous experience of this would be an advantage. Candidates who have the skills and knowledge required to teach at A Level but do not have previous experience are still welcome to apply for the role as support and training can be provided. The post would potentially be suitable for Early Career Teachers.

If you would like to arrange a visit to school prior to applying, would like to discuss the post further or have any questions, please contact the school via email to our HR Administrator, Ms K Wohlman, at k.wohlman@huttongrammar.org.

The application form, job description and person specification can be downloaded below and are also available from the school website www.huttongrammar.org.

All completed application forms should be accompanied by a letter, no longer than two sides A4 in length, outlining a candidate’s suitability for the post. Completed applications should be returned to our HR Administrator, Ms K Wohlman, at k.wohlman@huttongrammar.org.

The school is committed to the safeguarding and well-being of all young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to Enhanced DBS clearance. Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.
