About our school
Wisbech Academy opened in 2024 and is at an early—but immensely exciting—stage in its development. With only Years 7 and 8 currently on roll, we are building the foundations of a high‑performing, academically ambitious school that will grow year by year.
This is a rare opportunity to join a new school and help shape its identity, culture, and approach to academic excellence from the very beginning. As we establish a rigorous and scholarly environment for pupils in Wisbech, you will be joining at exactly the right moment to make a meaningful and lasting impact.
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and reflective Teacher of English to join our growing team. You will play a central role in delivering a high‑quality, knowledge‑rich English curriculum that equips pupils with powerful literary, linguistic, and cultural understanding.
In Year 7, you will also contribute to our Vision and Voices curriculum—a carefully designed transition project that strengthens pupils’ literacy while introducing key aspects of PSHE and Citizenship. This integrated programme helps pupils develop confidence, cultural awareness, and the habits of scholarly learning that underpin success at Wisbech Academy.
This role is ideal for someone who loves their subject, sets high expectations, and is excited by the opportunity to help build an exceptional English provision from the ground up.
What You Will Do
- Teach English to a high standard, ensuring pupils develop strong foundational knowledge in reading, writing, vocabulary, and canonical literature.
- Deliver the Year 7 Vision and Voices curriculum, providing additional literacy support and teaching elements of PSHE and Citizenship within a coherent, transition‑focused programme.
- Deliver lessons that combine academic rigour with effective adaptive teaching, ensuring all pupils—including those with SEND—can access and succeed in an ambitious curriculum.
- Work closely with the SEND team to understand pupils’ needs and implement appropriate strategies, scaffolds, and high‑quality classroom adaptations.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of a coherent, knowledge‑rich English curriculum.
- Use robust assessment to inform teaching, identify misconceptions, and support strong progress for every pupil.
- Help shape the early identity and culture of English at Wisbech Academy.
- Contribute to enrichment opportunities such as debating, writing competitions, book clubs, or theatre visits.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, modelling professionalism and a commitment to continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
- A passionate English specialist with excellent subject knowledge across literature, language, writing, and grammar.
- Someone who understands and values powerful disciplinary knowledge—including literary analysis, critical reading, rhetoric, and exposure to challenging texts.
- A reflective, research‑informed practitioner with strong pedagogical understanding.
- High expectations of pupil behaviour, effort, and scholarly engagement.
- A commitment to professional growth and to helping build an emerging department.
- Enthusiasm for contributing to a new school and shaping a culture centred on academic rigour and intellectual curiosity.
Why Join Wisbech Academy?
- Play a formative role in shaping English provision in a new and growing school.
- Teach within a research‑informed environment that values rigour, scholarship, and subject expertise.
