What skills and experience we're looking for

Appointment of a teacher of French and/or German

Information for applicants

1. We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about languages, enjoys working as a member of a team and is constantly seeking ways in which they can improve on their current practice. This role sits within the school’s vision of educating well-rounded global citizens. Rather than reducing the number of linguists in the school, substantial recent changes are geared towards raising the expectations of language learning across the school and beyond.

2. From September 2024 all students at KS4 will study a language at GCSE as we invest in MFL as a core component of a globally-focused curriculum. In the context of increasing global uncertainty, we hope you share our passion that languages can bring communities together.

3. Applications for a part-time or full-time post would be considered with an immediate start date (or as soon as possible) for the right candidate. The salary payable is on the main professional or upper pay scales (MPS1-UPS3) Applications are welcome from teachers at any stage in their career.

4. The successful applicant will be required to teach French and/or German to GCSE level. In addition, the successful applicant will have responsibility for a form and will be required to deliver their weekly lesson of Personal & Social Education.

5. All pupils study two from French, German or Mandarin as separate timetabled subjects in Years 7-9 and can study up to two at GCSE. A-Level French & German are taught in collaboration with local schools from the KE Foundation.

6. The language department offer extensive extra-curricular opportunities with language days, and residential visits. There are three dedicated language teaching rooms and a languages’ office. All staff receive a school laptop for work use.

7. A positive attitude towards the use of IT is essential.
