Teacher of Geography job summary

We are a highly supportive school with strong subject and senior leadership to help you develop. We are looking for a highly ambitious, committed and dynamic professional to join our Geography department; someone who is passionate about their subject, communicates well with young people and makes a positive impact on their learning. The Geography department comprises of 4 full-time teachers, including a Curriculum Leader, in subject-specialist rooms. We work collaboratively to support each other both with the demands of our work and our wellbeing such as through shared planning and resource development.

The Geography department is ambitious which is demonstrated by us achieving the Geographical Association’s Secondary Geography Quality Mark for 2024-7. We strive to teach topical, engaging lessons which reflect our changing world, as well as offering additional opportunities to support our cultural curriculum. We have an active Eco-club and offer fieldwork activities across KS3-5 including a fieldtrip to Iceland.

AVA’s Geography department has a good track record of strong GCSE results over several years. Progress is consistently above national average and it is a popular choice at GCSE with 6 classes in our current Yr11. The success of Geography has grown, leading to us now offering A Level Geography with classes in Year 12 and Year 13.

The successful applicant will be an individual who embodies a genuine passion for learning, possesses robust interpersonal skills, demonstrates resilience, excels as a teacher, and boasts exceptional subject knowledge, including a track record of delivering Geography.
