Teacher of Geography job summary

“The world as we know it is not ‘given’ and it can and it will change.” - Lambert et al

Laurus Cheadle Hulme are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography to join our thriving Humanities Department on a Fixed-Term basis. Whether you’re an Early Career Teacher or an experienced Teacher, we welcome individuals who are committed to delivering high-quality, engaging geography lessons that foster curiosity and academic success.

The aim of the Laurus Trust geography curriculum is to inspire all students, regardless of background or circumstance, to become confident, self-assured and globally-informed citizens who are able to engage in lifelong conversations about the world. The geography curriculum not only aims to develop extensive substantive knowledge of a wide range of places, environments and features, but also develop the procedural knowledge essential for students to understand and interrogate geographical claims about the world around them. Our curriculum will enable students to understand how the world was shaped and how it continues to be shaped by human and physical processes. As the curriculum progresses, students will develop their ability to explain the interdependence between these processes and their influences on changes in physical and human environments. It is increasingly important that our students’ experience of geography in The Laurus Trust takes them beyond the limits of their own personal experience and helps them to develop an awareness of their own place in the world, their impacts on it and how its future will be shaped by the next generations.

For further details on the role, including key skills and experience required, please see the Job Description and Person Specification attached below.

To learn more about what the Trust offer, including our wide range of employee benefits and access to further professional learning, visit our Careers page. The Laurus Trust recognises the importance of employees' work/life balance.  A better work-life balance can increase staff motivation, reduce employee stress, improve performance and productivity and make employment more accessible for more people. Where it is possible and practical, we will accommodate flexible arrangements from day 1, which may involve job sharing, part-time working, bespoke timetabling or a nine-day fortnight.

If you would like to join our Laurus family in a rewarding role that changes the lives of our students by empowering them to become the best that they can be then we would love to hear from you.

Please note a full application must be submitted as CV’s will unfortunately not be accepted in line with our safer recruitment process.

Closing Date: Friday 10th October at 9am.

Laurus Cheadle Hulme (LCH) is a non-selective, non-denominational Free School. It opened in September 2018. We currently have 1082 students on roll.

Our students are housed in a purpose-built building with access to state-of-the-art facilities and overlooking Bruntwood Park, with our Year 11 students progressing to Sixth Forms in the Laurus Trust. We share the same site as Cheadle Hulme Primary School.

The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.

Cheadle Hulme is a pleasant residential suburb on the edge of the Borough of Stockport, eleven miles south of the centre of Manchester. The location enjoys the advantages of proximity to the open countryside of Cheshire and the Peak District and the cultural and sporting activities of a major city.

If you want to work in a highly ambitious and successful school and believe you have the vision and commitment to join our team, then we would love to hear from you.
