We may close earlier should we find the right candidate

Are you an enthusiastic and determined Geography teacher with a passion for their subject? Are you excited about the opportunity to work with our committed and enthusiastic Key Stage 3 students within the humanities curriculum? Do you have the dedication, commitment, and openness to strategies to raise attainment at Key Stage 4 and 5? Then Ashby School is the place for you!

The Geography department is part of a thriving Humanities faculty that prides itself on outstanding teaching and care for students. The vision of the department is to promote curiosity about the world in order to equip students with an understanding of why people across the planet experience physical and human geography in very different ways. The four specialist teachers in the Geography department work closely together to ensure the Geography curriculum achieves this vision and is always inspirational, challenging and accessible for all students. We are looking for a teacher who shares this vision and wants Geography to be at the very heart of Ashby School.

Geography is a popular subject with over 400 students studying for their GCSE in years 10 and 11. The students study the AQA specification at GCSE level and outcomes continue to be very strong. Currently we have 100 students studying for their A Level in years 12 and 13. At A Level the students study the OCR specification which combines a range of examined units with a field trip leading to the completion of their coursework (NEA). Outcomes at A Level are again very strong with a significant proportion of the cohort choosing to study the subject at the University. At Key Stage 3, we deliver the subject both as part of the Humanities department with discrete Geography topics that are designed to provide a broad and balanced experience of the subject.

Geography is part of our Humanities faculty and our Geography teachers work alongside specialists in History, RE, Psychology & Business. To this end, candidates must be willing to teach outside of their specialism at Key Stage 3. Our Humanities faculty is housed in a suite of rooms equipped with projectors and with access to ICT facilities. The faculty also has admin support and dedicated work areas.

As teachers we recognise the need for consistently high standards of pedagogy that offers structure, scaffolding and support without limiting brilliance. If you share this vision, have a passion for Geography and want to be part of a team who go the extra mile for students, we would very much like to meet you.
