Teacher of Geography job summary
We are looking for someone with a passion for teaching and excellent subject knowledge to join our hardworking team. We welcome innovative thinking and seek somebody to share our vision of teaching our relevant and practical subject.
Geography performance has gone from strength to strength in recent years (with 71% of GCSE students gaining 7+ grades and 70% of A Level students getting A*- B grades last year).
The department is based in a suite of five dedicated classrooms where almost all geography teaching takes place. One of the geography classrooms is equipped with a cluster of 26 networked PCs plus an interactive whiteboard. Overhead projectors are installed in all classrooms. We have a comprehensive collection of fieldwork equipment and a wide range of textbooks and other teaching resources.
At GCSE we follow the AQA specification. The Year 10 course includes UK landscapes, Urban Issues and The Living World with a three day trip to North Wales to complete fieldwork to prepare for Paper 3. In Year 11 the course includes Natural Hazards, Changing Economic World and Resource Management.
The A Level course follows the AQA Specification. In Year 12 we study Coastal Systems, Hazards and Changing Places. The Year 12 course includes a one day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon and a three day trip to Dorset. The Year 13 course studies Water and Carbon Cycles, Global Systems and Governance and Population and the Environment.
As well as running regular curriculum trips, the department has a tradition of running a number of extra-curricular opportunities including recent trips to Iceland, the Azores and Italy. with a trip to Morocco planned for 2021.
The post arises from the promotion of one of the current team to a leadership position in another school.
