Small enough to care, big enough to make a positive impact

Located in South East Northumberland, we are proud of our strong standards in teaching and behaviour and our unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. We believe passionately that every student should be empowered to succeed in all aspects of school life—academically, socially, and personally. Building on our ‘Good’ Ofsted rating, we remain focused on raising standards even further. Through high-quality teaching, a supportive learning environment, and a culture of ambition and care, we are determined to help all our students realise their full potential.
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography to join our dedicated and high-performing department. This is a specialist role teaching Geography across Key Stages 3 and 4, from Year 7 to Year 11. This full time role will be based across the federation, working at Astley Community High School and Whytrig Middle School, which share the same site. For the first academic year of this role there is a requirement to also teach a Key Stage 3 English class due to timetabling. This post is suitable for an Early Career Teacher (ECT) or a more experienced practitioner.
At Astley Community High School, you will join our Humanities Faculty - a dedicated and highly focused team of seven teachers delivering high-quality lessons across a range of subjects including Geography, History, French, and Religious Education. The team is committed to providing engaging learning experiences that inspire students and foster academic success. As a relatively small school, Astley Community High School benefits from a genuine sense of community. Behaviour across the school is consistently good, with the vast majority of students embracing our core expectations: to be ready, respectful, and safe. These values are embedded in daily school life and contribute to a calm and purposeful learning environment.

At Whytrig Middle School, students benefit from a nurturing, primary-style learning environment in Key Stage 2, where they are primarily taught in form classes. However, they also enjoy access to specialist teaching in subjects such as French, PE, music, and technology, giving them a rich and varied educational experience. This approach continues into Key Stage 3, where students begin to move around the school for specialist subject lessons. This structure supports a smooth and confident transition from middle school to high school, preparing students for the increased independence and academic expectations of Key Stage 4 and beyond.
Visits to the school are also warmly welcomed and encouraged. Please contact Richard Goodman, Head of School ACHS on 0191 2371505 or email vacancies@svf.org.uk to make an appointment.
