Applications welcomed from ECTs and more experienced candidates

Heathside Walton-on-Thames, an Ofsted-rated Outstanding school, is entering an exciting phase of growth, and we are delighted to offer the opportunity for a dedicated Teacher of Geography to join our thriving Humanities faculty. At Heathside, we believe in nurturing an inclusive, ambitious community where curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning are at the core of every lesson.

We are looking for an enthusiastic geographer who is passionate about helping students make sense of the world—its landscapes, cultures, environments, and challenges. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing Geography alive: from exploring tectonic processes and weather hazards to investigating global inequalities, sustainability, and the complexities of our interconnected planet.

As a valued member of our Geography team, you will benefit from:

Opportunities to shape and develop the department: Contribute to strengthening our provision across geography as the school continues to grow.

Career growth and development: Access to high-quality CPD, mentorship, and clear routes for progression.

A meaningful impact on young people: Play a vital role in developing environmentally aware, globally minded citizens equipped to understand and respond to today’s pressing geographical issues—from climate change and resource management to urbanisation and population dynamics.

We strongly encourage interested candidates to arrange an informal tour of the school! Experiencing our vibrant learning spaces and meeting our passionate staff is the best way to understand our ethos. To arrange a visit, please contact the Head of School, Mr Clark, via email at smcgonigal@heathsidewalton.org.

The successful candidate will:

Teach Geography confidently across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging lessons rooted in strong geographical knowledge

Bring to life both physical and human geography through enquiry-based learning, real-world case studies, and up-to-date geographical examples

Plan creative lessons that help students interpret maps, data, GIS, and a range of geographical sources

Use effective assessment strategies to support progress in locational knowledge, geographical skills, and conceptual understanding

Differentiate teaching to ensure all students—whether emerging or high-attaining geographers—can access, enjoy, and excel in the subject

Contribute to a rich extracurricular programme, such as fieldwork experiences, local investigations, eco initiatives or Geography Society trips,

We are deeply proud of the welcoming, aspirational culture we have built. With outstanding staff retention, this role forms part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that every class is taught by a subject specialist as we continue to grow.

The role of Head of Learning is also currently being advertised, if you would be interested in this additional role please indicate your interest on your application.
