Safeguarding Requirement:
This post requires the post holder to work in settings with children and young adults. Any employment offer is therefore subject to the results of an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The ideal candidate will:
hold Qualified Teacher Status and a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
have excellent geographical knowledge in their specialist field, with a strong understanding of the AQA Geography specification; applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are warmly welcomed, with support and training provided
be an excellent classroom practitioner, or an aspiring practitioner with the commitment and potential to develop outstanding practice

demonstrate a growth mindset, with a commitment to ongoing subject knowledge development, reflective practice and iterative improvement
Specific duties
To teach excellent, engaging lessons to diverse groups of students at all levels.
To adhere to National Curriculum standards.
To ensure that lessons offer a wide range of learning opportunities to meet individual student needs.
To evaluate lessons in relation to student learning and plan future lessons accordingly.
To ensure that students make good progress as reflected in value added data and in examination results.
To assess, record and report on student performance.
To report to parents as required.
Use data to assess students’ academic progress against departmental standards.
Support student progress where forecast grades are significantly below expectations by making e-mail or telephone contact with parents.
Intervene directly with students where forecast grades are significantly below expectations.
To effectively manage classroom behaviour in line with school systems and policy.
To take responsibility for personal professional development through:
o keeping abreast of relevant national, local, and school based initiatives that will positively impact on learning.
o classroom observation.
o shared lesson planning.
o promoting classroom learning and an enthusiasm for learning.
o taking part in regular professional development discussion.
o attending INSET as required.
To uphold the standards and working practice of the school as detailed in the colleague handbook.
To adhere to school policies and procedures.
Role of the Form Tutor
Main duties
To manage daily routines within school relating to uniform, equipment, timekeeping, and readiness to learn.
To oversee the behaviour of each member of the tutor group.
To monitor and promote the good lesson attendance of each member of the tutor group.
To monitor the social, emotional, and physical well-being (including social integration) of each member of the tutor group.
To listen to and develop student voice within the tutor group.
To be a good role model to students.
Employees will be expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Headteacher to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.
Person Specification
Essential
Be educated to degree level with (or working towards) QTS
Degree or equivalent
Evidence of continuing professional development and a willingness to undertake further development as appropriate.
Evidence of/potential to become an excellent classroom practitioner, capable of inspiring students and forming good relationships with colleagues
Ability to inspire and motivate students
Able to analyse data with a view to developing strategies to improve performance
Ability to monitor and evaluate impact of interventions and strategies
Detailed knowledge of current developments in subject area for all levels including sixth form
Successful experience or the ability to teach subject at GCSE
Excellent communication skills
Excellent behaviour management skills
Commitment to the safeguarding of young people
Is willing to work flexibly within scope of overall hours, e.g. evening meetings
Desirable
Knowledge of innovating teaching and learning strategies
Highly competent in ICT and the use of computers
A willingness to be fully involved in the wider life of Todmorden High School, including extra-curricular activities.
