Teacher of Geography job summary
Come and join the Geography team at Weavers Academy! There is a real movement taking place in the Geography and wider Humanities curriculum area.
With the appointment of new leadership in History and Geography together with exciting bespoke, developmental opportunities for pedagogical innovation, learning and progress have rapidly improved. We place great emphasis on developing independent learning.
Colleagues that work within the Humanities areas are intensely collaborative. There are currently 4 full-time Geography specialists. They share lead practice in a variety of ways and provide each other with developmental support through joint-practice development.
Collaboration, joint-planning and team-teaching is at the heart of our ethos and all teachers are involved in these aspects on a regular basis. This is what has led to our growing success.
This is an exciting time to join the Geography team. The school has the confidence of the community and is a first-choice for large numbers of parents. Our roll is expanding and therefore the provision of Geography is increasing, particularly in KS4 and at A level.
Geography Curriculum
Outside the core, Geography is a very popular subject and regularly recruits one of the largest GCSE cohorts.
Students follow the AQA Geography specification which they study in Years 10 and 11. Students have seven 1 hour periods per cycle (2 weeks).
In KS3, all students have 3 Geography lessons per 2 week cycle. These are particularly focused on:
Acquiring and developing geographical knowledge including how to critique, assess and evaluate sources; and
Establishing a deep love of learning in the subject and building a firm foundation for further study in KS4 and beyond.
Students currently study contemporary units including Africa, climate change, physical landscapes in the UK and the Valentine rose trade.
In KS4 we follow the AQA specification and students have 7 lessons per 2 week cycle and these are focussed on:-
Study an equal mix of human and physical modules including hazards, challenges in the urban world and the living world. We also undertake two field studies as part of paper 3.
At KS5 we also study the AQA specification and students have eight 1 hour lessons per cycle and include:
Compulsory units of water and carbon cycles, global governance and changing places. Our optional units are coastal environments, hazards and people and the environment.
We are strong practitioners within PiXL and within the CET academy family of schools. We provide school-to-school support and enjoy being part of wider collaboration and national initiatives.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.
Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Weavers Academy is an 11- 18, non-selective academy in Wellingborough and part of the growing Creative Education Trust. We are proud to be a 'good' school (Ofsted, 2022)
Weavers is large enough to offer a very broad range of opportunities within its innovative, comprehensive curriculum while small enough to provide the level of care required to ensure all students feel safe, valued and happy.
We know that the quality of teaching and learning is the single biggest factor in shaping how well students do at school and it is for this reason that we have placed it at the centre of the school’s work. We care deeply about the success of each and every one of our students and we demonstrate this by devoting a huge amount of time to every individual.
The behaviour and attitudes of our students is good and we are proud of our students and the kind and caring attitudes to each other that they display. This ensures an environment in which learning is good and better for everyone. We have an ethos in which is it ‘cool’ to learn and feedback from families and students is absolutely key to this.
