Teacher of Girls' Physical Education job summary

The King's Academy are looking to recruit a Teacher of Girls' PE who will enthuse pupils to learn with a combination of great subject knowledge, energy and dedication. This is a Maternity Cover position to last up 1 full academic year, expected end date being 31 August 2025.

The PE department provides education to all students in Years 7 to 11 as part of our ‘core PE’ programme. Students can begin to study PE in more depth from Year 9, with GCSE and vocational routes being offered in Key Stage 4. At sixth form, A level physical education is offered, as well as the department contributing to the wider enrichment programme in the sixth form. The department has a strong extracurricular emphasis, with sporting teams running across the school in a range of sports (netball, hockey, football, rugby, cross country) with students also engaging in a range of other sporting opportunities as they arise.

We have high expectations for our students as they grow and develop and all our staff provide important role models to them in terms of positive attitude, work ethic and diligence.

The successful candidate will:

  • develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives
  • facilitate learning by establishing effective relationship with pupils
  • maintain organised learning resources
  • create a positive learning environment in the classroom
  • develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children
  • assess and record progress and prepare pupils for national tests
  • link pupils' knowledge to earlier learning and develop ways to encourage it further, challenging and inspiring pupils to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.
