Teacher of History job summary

“The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see” (Winston Churchill) and the importance of History is something that we hold dear.

This is a school with great students and ambitious, talented staff, who aim to develop students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible.

History is central to our curriculum and we value the role it plays in our young people’s education. We are looking for an inspiring individual to join our team, lead and develop the history department and contribute to the life chances of the young people in our school community. This post would suit an ECT or a more experienced teacher.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of historians who are committed to ensuring that history remains a popular and successful subject at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. The team values the development of enriching student learning experiences through such things as educational visits and hosting survivors in delivering their testimony to our community in partnership with the Holocaust Educational Trust.

This is a very exciting time to join our school. We are looking for an enthusiastic professional with the expertise and dedication to live out our values of ‘commitment to others, commitment to learning’. These commitments are central to our school, demonstrated by the strong, warm relationships, and a strong culture of learning for both students and staff. This role will allow you genuine scope to be part of something ambitious and improve the opportunities and outcomes of students in our school community so as to ensure they have the best possible chance to flourish and succeed. At the Oxford Academy, we work to meet the needs of all - whatever it takes.

Do you want to work in a school that:

  • Is friendly and community centred, where staff genuinely feel part of a team. 'The school is mindful of staff workload and well-being. It provides high-quality training and support. Staff recognise this and they feel valued and respected' (Ofsted 2023).

  • Places staff well-being at the heart of everything we do.

  • Has a full time Instructional Coach who works with staff to develop their practice through selecting specific teaching goals that maximise student learning.

  • Has an ‘aspirational and appropriate curriculum for all’ (Ofsted 2023).

  • Has students who behave well in lessons (Ofsted 2023) so teachers can teach and students can learn.

  • Prioritises high quality bespoke CPLD as well as opportunities for collaboration and support across a successful and highly respected multi academy trust.

  • Is well resourced and where each teacher has their own classroom complete with interactive screen as well as a Chromebook.

At The Oxford Academy, we offer pride, aspiration and opportunity to every member of our community, and significantly improved learning outcomes. We are committed to ensuring that our students and staff are highly successful, through positive improvements in our school which are sustainable.

The Oxford Academy is seeking to appoint an excellent and energetic teacher who is truly passionate about their subject and can inspire students and instil a love of learning. As a teacher at The Oxford Academy you would be responsible for delivering excellent lessons, pastoral care for our students and contributing to the wider school community.

You will be someone who has high expectations of themselves and others, and someone thoroughly committed to making a difference to students’ lives. The ability to teach A-level is desirable but not essential.

A targeted retention incentive payment is available for qualifying Maths teachers at The Oxford Academy. For more details see the link below:

Education has the power to change lives, communities and society for the better. OUR ‘HOW?’ is through the highest support and challenge for our schools and each other, underpinned by our principles.

Our employees benefit from a wide variety of support including extensive continuing professional learning and development opportunities, wellbeing and staff networks and access to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes (TPS and LGPS) for all staff.
