Outwood Academy Easingwold is set on the outskirts of the beautiful market town of Easingwold, easily accessible from Ripon, York, Thirsk, Boroughbridge, Harrogate and many outlying villages. We are judged by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’, something we are very proud of and are seeking a Teacher of History to join our family, please read on to learn about our Academy.

The Humanities faculty at Outwood Academy Easingwold not only consists of geography, history and RE, but also criminology, economics and sociology. As you can see we are a large faculty and we work extremely well as a team. We have a wealth of experience in the department, which means plenty of support no matter where you are in your teaching career. We take teaching and learning seriously and always want to better ourselves.

Working with us in the humanities faculty would be ideal for anyone who wants to experience some sixth form teaching.

In Geography students follow a three-year Key Stage 3 programme of study. In Year 7 students study geography for two hours per week, and one hour per week in Years 8 and Year 9. We believe that we have developed a strong geography curriculum for students which is based around five core concepts: sustainability, human and physical interactions, physical processes, climate change and development. We believe that this will prepare students well for the rigours of their GCSE courses and life beyond the academy. At Outwood Academy Easingwold we follow AQA. The units we cover are Paper 1: Natural Hazards, Living World (Hot Deserts), Coasts and Rivers; Paper 2: Urban, Economic Change; Resource Management and Water; Paper 3: Pre-Release and Fieldwork. We recognise the importance of students being able to connect their geography learning to the real world and as such we actively promote students being able to conduct fieldwork in every year group.

In History we have developed an exciting, innovative curriculum which builds key historical knowledge, concepts and skills which prepares students well for their GCSE studies and life beyond the academy. In Year 7 students study history for one hour per week, but this then increases in Year 8 to two hours per week then back to one hour per week in Year 9. At GCSE we follow the Edexcel History course studying Medicine in Britain c1250 - present, Early Elizabethan England 1558 - 88, the American West c1835 - c1895 and Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918 - 39.

Students studying A-Levels at OAE have 4 hours of teaching per subject per week with most students taking three subjects. Humanities subjects are extremely popular at A-Level.

As much as we feel we have a strong curriculum, that is not to say that our work on curriculum is complete! We know that to really do the best for our students and to have a curriculum which continues to inspire, we need to constantly review and develop our curriculum. We are looking for a candidate who will work alongside us to build a curiosity and fascination about the world in our students.
