Teacher of Humanities in Spanish - Part-Time (0.33 to 0.66 of FTE) job summary

Europa School specialises in languages and offers a multilingual, multicultural education, leading ultimately to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP). The bilingual curriculum in primary is unique and is an immersion model. In the lower Years 1-5 we follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), with students sitting MYP e-Assessments at the end of S5 (year 11). Europa School is an all-through free school of students aged 4 to 19.

Our Spanish cohort will sit their MYP e-assessment in Integrated humanities in Spanish.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for teaching humanities, be a fluent Spanish speaker, and be committed to fostering an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, and creativity,. The role involves teaching geography, history and possibly a small amount of economics in Spanish to Year 7 - 11 students, ensuring effective delivery of key knowledge and skills to a diverse student body, and maintaining discipline. The candidate will help establish a positive and inclusive school ethos, implement best practice policies, and engage parents in the school community. Responsibilities include collaborating with the Deputy Heads of Secondary, providing regular feedback to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on student progress and whole-school achievements, and actively supporting the broad and balanced IB curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Fluent Spanish.
  • Essential: Teaching qualification, university degree in a related subject.
  • Desirable: Experience with IB

  • Skills: Excellent communication, motivational, and ICT skills; strong knowledge of varied pedagogical practices and the ability to inspire critical thinking in students.

Europa School UK a UK state school offering a bilingual education from four to 18 culminating in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

September 2017 saw ESUK open the Secondary School, the final stage of a phased opening which began in 2012 with key stage 1. We offer a multilingual and multicultural education, with primary children taught in English and also either German, French or Spanish via full immersion and humanities taught in the second language throughout the secondary phase. Other than language our emphasis is on science, well suited to the employment opportunities in Oxfordshire. Europa School inherits from its European School predecessor a history of preparing students for outstanding success at universities in the UK, throughout Europe and beyond.

The primary has three form entry and is consistently oversubscribed. We received a good rating from Ofsted.

The centrepiece of the Secondary School is the beautiful grade-II listed buildings of Culham College which has hosted a European School since 1978 and is in the process of receiving a multimillion pound facelift. The school is set in rural Oxfordshire but near Oxford and Abingdon. There is onsite parking and good cycle access.
