What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, talented and inspiring classroom practitioner to teach Humanities subjects across all ability groups in KS3. This will include the possibility of Teaching History, Geography and RE at KS3. At KS4 it will include study support and teaching our specialist groups in qualifications such as ASDAN.
The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge and the ability to inspire and motivate our ambitious and hardworking pupils. Following a department restructure, as a Teacher of Humanities you will join our newly formed Humanities and Social Sciences faculty, who pride themselves on their innovative approach to supporting every student to achieve their full potential. You will benefit from entering a new department who are keen to work collaboratively and welcome forward-thinking initiatives. We are able to offer new colleagues’ advice, support and professional development opportunities in a friendly, positive and creative environment.
For the right candidate with an interest in SEN there is the opportunity to work alongside our SENCO to develop your skills and expertise through supporting this department, this could lead to a career pathway supporting SEN students and their families.

Thurston Community College is a large popular mixed comprehensive school. It comprises of two distinct and specialist sites. Our Thurston Campus, for students from Year 7 to Year 11 is situated four miles east of Bury St Edmunds. Thurston Sixth; Beyton Campus is located in the nearby village of Beyton, offering a bespoke centre of excellence for students in Year 12 and Year 13. Both locations provide an exciting, dynamic learning environment, where students display a positive attitude to learning and make good progress.

Humanities is a thriving department with a proven track record of outstanding student achievement at GCSE and particularly at Advanced level. All lessons are taught in specialist rooms at both the Thurston and the Beyton Campuses. Humanities is a popular subject in the Sixth Form with a large uptake at Advanced level.
