Job description

Mathematics is a very successful, large and supportive department. We deliberately have a mix of experience levels within the teaching team, finding that this gives us the best combination for our students. We have an excellent record on staff retention and the training and professional development of staff is at the core of our ethos. With regard to the curriculum, year groups are grouped in a two-band structure and the consistency of teacher throughout each Key Stage is maintained where possible. Students are set within these bands. All of our students are entered for the Mathematics GCSE, although those in the lowest ability groups may also be entered for the Entry Level Certificate. Mathematics and Further Mathematics are very popular options at Key Stage 5, with students regularly achieving double A*’s

Essential educational requirements

Experience of teaching and maintaining professional teaching standards
Successful completion of teaching practice and PGCE GTP year (if NQT)

Essential qualifications

Good subject knowledge and passion for the subject
Good knowledge of pedagogy, how students learn and teaching and learning styles
Knowledge of effective assessment strategies

Good classroom practitioner using effective behaviour management and a range of learning strategies
Excellent relationships with students and colleagues
Ability to inspire and motivate students
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Creativity, energy and enthusiasm
Excellent records of punctuality, attendance, health
Adherences to professional code of conduct and dress
Flexibility and adaptability to change
Good IT skills
Have excellent skills in literacy and numeracy
