Heathside Walton-on-Thames, an Ofsted-rated Outstanding school, is entering an exciting phase of growth, and we are delighted to offer the opportunity for a dedicated Teacher of Mathematics to join our thriving Maths faculty. We are looking for an enthusiastic mathematician who is passionate about helping students develop confidence and fluency in mathematics—from fundamental number skills to advanced problem-solving and abstract reasoning.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing Mathematics alive: exploring rich problems, making connections across topics, and inspiring students to appreciate the beauty, logic, and real-world application of mathematics. Our maths department promotes deep understanding, mathematical reasoning, and a strong emphasis on problem-solving. Students are encouraged to think critically, justify their methods, explore patterns, and develop a secure grasp of key mathematical concepts.

As a valued member of our maths team, you will benefit from:

Opportunities to shape and develop the department: Play a central role in strengthening our provision across the mathematics curriculum as the school continues to grow.

Career growth and development: Access to high-quality CPD, mentorship, and clear routes for progression.

A meaningful impact on young people: Help develop numerate, resilient, and analytical thinkers equipped to apply mathematics to real-world challenges—from finance and technology to science and engineering.

We strongly encourage interested candidates to arrange an informal tour of the school. Experiencing our dynamic learning spaces and passionate staff team is the best way to understand our ethos. To arrange a visit, please contact the Head of School, Mr Clark, via email at smcgonigal@heathsidewalton.org

The successful candidate will:

Teach Mathematics confidently across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging lessons rooted in secure subject knowledge

Bring mathematical concepts to life through problem-solving, modelling, discussion, and real-world applications

Plan creative, carefully structured lessons that develop students’ mathematical reasoning, fluency, and problem-solving skills

Use effective assessment strategies to support progress in understanding, application, and mastery of key concepts

Differentiate teaching to ensure all learners—from those building foundational skills to high-attaining mathematicians—can access, enjoy, and excel in Mathematics

Contribute to a rich extracurricular programme, such as maths clubs, competitions, enrichment activities, or cross-curricular STEM opportunities

We are deeply proud of the welcoming, aspirational culture we have built. With outstanding staff retention, this role forms part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that every class is taught by a subject specialist as we continue to grow.
