What skills and experience we're looking for
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented Mathematician to join our thriving Mathematics department to cover maternity leave from January 2024.
You will be joining a team who are passionate about Mathematics as a subject. The Mathematics Department is a crucial element of our commitment to high performance.
Our students are exceptionally motivated and they arrive at the School with a high level of ability. Almost 90% of students study Mathematics in the Sixth Form, Further Maths is our fifth biggest A Level subject, and typically a dozen students will succeed in Oxbridge applications each year in Maths related subjects.
All Key Stage 4 pupils’ study Higher GCSE Edexcel, with approximately 100 students also taking the OCR freestanding additional mathematics qualification. Years 7 and 8 follow the national curriculum with students given the opportunity to apply their knowledge through problem solving challenges.
We encourage all students to participate in the UKMT Mathematics Challenges and regularly have students qualifying for the follow-on rounds. This is made possible by our teachers providing an environment in which students are encouraged to think and to problem-solve creatively.
Our ideal candidate will have a genuine love of Maths and experience of teaching Maths at A-Level. They will nurture intellectual curiosity and stretch students to be the very best they can be. Experience of teaching Further Maths is desirable.
At Reading School, we have a clear educational philosophy and a deeply rooted commitment to social mobility. In all we do we seek to nurture character and develop academic excellence, and we know that what we do really matters. More than 10% of our Year 7 students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and we are proud of the difference that we make.
