It is expected that the successful applicant will be able to fulfil the following criteria:

Qualifications / Ability and Experience:

  • QTS and a good honours degree in a related subject (ECTs are welcome)
  • Ability to teach GCSE Maths, and ideally A level Maths and A level Statistics

The Department:

In KS4 lessons we follow the Pearson (Edexcel) specification.

At KS5 we offer three Mathematics options:

  • Pearson A level Mathematics

  • Pearson A level Statistics

  • MEI (OCR) Further Mathematics

A Level teaching is central to the job as typically over 300 students are taking one of our A Level courses. We have a strong record of success with a significant number of our students going on to study our subject at universities including Cambridge and Warwick.

The Mathematics department is a thriving and happy team and the successful applicant will be well supported throughout their time here. Weekly meetings and a departmental bulletin help keep communication efficient.

Extra-curricular opportunities

Each year students throughout the school have the opportunity to participate in one of the UK Mathematical Challenges. Students regularly qualify for all three levels of the follow-on Olympiad competitions, and also take part in the Senior and Junior Team Maths Challenges. We run a variety of trips within the Mathematics department, including a data handling trip to Drayton Manor for year 9; Maths ‘Inspiration’ and Maths & Beyond lectures (Year 10/11); Maths in Action Days (Years 12 /13)

The extracurricular clubs on offer in Maths are Omega club where KS3 students learn and play strategy games. There is also the KS5 MathsSoc for our A level students who are interested in discussing more complex and intriguing problems and a chess club for Years 9-13. We are always looking for new opportunities to enrich the student experience.
