Are you looking for a new challenge in a warm, friendly and collaborative department with excellent links to Cambridge Maths Hub?

Why join the Maths team at Comberton Village College?

We offer a broad and diverse curriculum: In addition to GCSE Maths, we offer GCSE Statistics, Level 2 Further Maths, and Level 1 Number and Measure at KS4, plus a wide range of KS5 options including A Level Maths, Further Maths, Core Maths, and enrichment opportunities, with an ethos of providing a qualification at the right level for all pupils.

We focus on holistic development: Teaching maths at CVC is about more than grades—we nurture well-rounded mathematicians through UKMT and maths challenges, inspiration trips, and curriculum immersion activities.

We have an unparalleled professional development culture: Staff benefit from extensive CPD opportunities via the Trust, Maths Hub, AMSP, and weekly pedagogy/problem-solving sessions, with encouragement to engage in research and innovative teaching techniques.

We provide access to national leadership and collaboration: As the base for the Cambridge Maths Hub, our department is at the forefront of maths education, offering opportunities to lead work groups and participate in NCETM and Teaching for Mastery projects. We also support a number of staff to take up secondments with different professional bodies, acknowledging the importance of breadth of experience within the team.

We provide a supportive and ambitious environment: We are a teaching school with a strong focus on initial teacher education and ongoing development, welcoming new ideas and fostering collaboration within a dynamic, forward-thinking team. With an extensive, but not prescriptive, bank of resources to build upon when teaching lessons we cultivate an expectation of work-life balance.

In addition to joining a fantastic department, Comberton Village College can offer you:

Generous Non-Contact Time: Enjoy additional non-contact time beyond statutory PPA, including fortnightly timetabled subject CPD sessions to support your ongoing professional development.

Engaged and Respectful Students: Teach delightful pupils who embody our ethos of Caring, Confident and Capable, in an environment where disruption to learning is extremely rare.

Positive Staff Culture and Wellbeing: Be part of a community-focused school that values staff wellbeing, offering fresh tea and coffee daily, regular staff events, and excellent on-site catering.

Excellent Facilities and Perks: Benefit from free on-site parking with EV chargers, discounted membership at our Sports Centre, and access to a wide range of adult learning opportunities.

‘Pupils here are not taught just to pass exams. They acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be first-rate scientists, historians, and artists, among others.’ (Ofsted, November 2024).

We are a highly successful, community mixed comprehensive school with Teaching School status in a pleasant rural setting only 5 miles from the centre of Cambridge. We currently have around 2000 11-18 pupils on roll including in our sixth form centre that opened in September 2011. As the school continues to grow, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Maths as an addition to our successful and supportive Maths department, to add capacity particularly across our KS4 and KS5 teaching.

Our pupils are well motivated, staff morale is excellent and examination results at KS4 and KS5 are very strong across our comprehensive intake. The school has consistently been rated by Ofsted as outstanding over very many years - our most recent Ofsted (November 2024) achieved ‘outstanding’ in all categories. Considerable work has been done on the curriculum to ensure it is highly effective in preparing pupils for their future, and is exciting to teach.

Comberton Village College offers an exceptionally rich and varied mathematics curriculum. At KS4, alongside GCSE Maths, students can access GCSE Statistics, Level 2 Further Maths, and Level 1 Number and Measure, ensuring both stretch and support for all learners. At KS5, maths is consistently the most popular A Level choice, and we provide pathways for every student who wishes to continue with the subject post-16, including A Level Maths, Further Maths, Core Maths, and enrichment opportunities such as mentoring younger pupils. This breadth of provision reflects our commitment to fostering deep mathematical understanding and enthusiasm across all stages.

Our department goes beyond exam success, focusing on developing confident, well-rounded mathematicians. We run UKMT challenges, organise trips, and offer curriculum immersion activities throughout the year. With our Trust as the base for the Cambridge Maths Hub, we are at the forefront of national maths education initiatives, including NCETM projects and Teaching for Mastery; with the all members of the department in recent years having been involved in either facilitating or participating in work groups through the Maths Hub. Teachers here benefit from outstanding professional development opportunities, from weekly pedagogy sessions to involvement in research and leadership roles within the Maths Hub. Joining our team means becoming part of a dynamic, collaborative department that values innovation, risk, and excellence in mathematics teaching.

The successful candidate will need to be an enthusiastic, inspiring and motivating teacher who can demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and will ensure students have high aspirations to achieve their best through our unique curriculum. The post is suitable for more experienced teachers or ECTs, and we welcome applications from all backgrounds; we are very supportive of flexible working and have many colleagues who benefit from this. This includes several colleagues who combine their teaching at CVC with roles at the Maths Hub, UKMT, MEI, AQA and more, as well as those involved in leading ITT programmes and working at Cambridge University. Whilst we are ideally looking for someone to join us from Easter 2026, we would also consider applications from those looking for a September start.
