Teacher of Maths job summary
We are looking to appoint a
dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our Mathematics
department as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity for a
teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people.
Our single goal is “Students First” and you will be joining a strong team of
professionals working to this sole aim.
Outwood Grange Academies Trust
provides a high-quality learning and cultural environment that inspires and
motivates children. Whether you are ambitious for progression or determined to
be an outstanding classroom teacher, Outwood Academy Portland is the place for
you. Leadership development, succession planning and capacity building are
major priorities for the Trust as this enables us to facilitate rapid
progression for those who want to advance either in the classroom or at a
leadership level. You will be well supported by an experienced team of teachers
and Directors as you work to raise attainment levels and offer an engaging
curriculum experience.
The Academy benefits from being
part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to
work and progress across several schools if desired. All staff are
guaranteed a minimum of two hours CPD per week and a further comprehensive
programme of professional development is provided through our own network of
teaching schools. Our Executive Director for Maths, Kathryn Greenhalgh,
leads Yorkshire and the Humber Maths Hub. This, as well as her work with
the DfE, means that OGAT maths departments are helping to inform the
development and mould the landscape of mathematics both regionally and
nationally.
We have a great training package
for teachers new to the Trust from ECTs through to HODs which includes:
Teaching for Understanding; Open Classroom events; Maths Matters; TSST;
Reasoning at KS3; weekly professional development time and further programmes free
through the Outwood Institute of Education. We invest in you so you
invest in our students.

We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning. We have an exceptional culture and student behaviour which is recognised by being a host school for the Exemplary Leadership Programme.
‘Overwhelmingly, staff are upbeat about the school. They value the positive changes in the school’s culture. They appreciate training opportunities. They welcome steps to make their workload more manageable. Staff morale is positive and they are very proud to be part of the school.’ - Ofsted, November 2024.
We have created an educational environment where staff and students constantly strive to improve; where teachers sharpen their skills and expand their repertoires to deliver an outstanding learning experience; and where teachers, classroom assistants, mentors, tutors, inclusion support assistants and students operate as a seamless team. This enables everybody, staff and students, to not only see but also help fulfil the potential in each other.
We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.
We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.
All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.
If you share our vision, join our family.
