Teacher of MFL job summary
Modern Foreign Languages Department
The department occupies 5 rooms within the Modern Foreign Languages area. There is one language office which also serves as a work area for staff and a place for discussion. The department is well equipped with textbooks, whiteboards and work booklets for use at home and in class. All teaching rooms have an interactive whiteboard and stand alone computer. Staff have access to several software packages such as Pearson Active Learn, Atantot, Linguascope, and Kerboodle to enhance their teaching. All classwork and homework is accessible on Google classroom to consolidate learning.
Curriculum AllocationIn Key Stage 3, currently all of the pupils in years 7 study MFL for 5 periods each 2 week cycle. Pupils study French and German or French and Spanish in Year 7 then select the language in which they intend to specialise during Year 8 and Year 9.In Key Stage 4 pupils can study one - three foreign languages to GCSE for 5 hours each 2 week cycle. Pupils follow the full GCSE course, with 100% entry for all courses. Languages are a popular choice at GCSE with approximately 70% of pupils choosing either French, German or Spanish GCSE. Extra-curricular opportunitiesIn addition to the normal curriculum we undertake a number of other activities:
Exchange programme with German partner school in Höchstadt for year 9 and 10 pupils
Exchange programme into Sartrouville on the outskirts of Paris for Year 9 and 10 pupils
German trip to Christmas market in Köln for year 8 and 11 pupils
Spanish trip to Madrid for Years 8, 9 and 10 pupils
Language Leadership project for year 9 German
European Day of Languages Festival with local feeder primary schools
