or
MPS – UPS & TLR2a for experienced teachers
Start Date: 1st September 2025
Consett Academy is seeking to appoint a talented and committed Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages to join our high-achieving and forward-thinking MFL department. We are proud to offer both French and German across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and we are looking for a teacher who shares our ambition to deliver an engaging, challenging and aspirational curriculum that supports every student to succeed. This is an excellent opportunity for either an Early Career Teacher (ECT) seeking a strong foundation in a supportive school, or for an experienced teacher ready to take on leadership responsibility within the department.
We recognise that starting your teaching career is a crucial time, and we are committed to supporting Early Career Teachers through a structured induction programme, expert mentoring, and tailored CPD. To further support new teachers joining the Trust, we are offering an enhanced Recruitment and Retention Package. This includes a £1,500 payment on your start date, a further £1,500 at the end of your first year, and an additional £1,000 at the end of your second year. These payments are designed to reward commitment and provide financial support in your early teaching years.
For experienced practitioners, we are offering the opportunity to take on a leadership role within the department with a TLR2a. This role would suit a teacher looking to take the next step in their career by leading on Key Stage 3 provision, including curriculum development, assessment, teaching and learning strategies, and supporting the development of other staff within the team. You will work closely with the Head of Department to contribute to the strategic direction of MFL across the academy, with a particular focus on ensuring strong foundations at Key Stage 3 that support progression through to GCSE and beyond.
The successful candidate will be a passionate teacher of French and German, with the ability to deliver high-quality teaching across the full age and ability range, including A-level. You will have strong subject knowledge, a genuine enthusiasm for language learning, and a commitment to ensuring that all students achieve their full potential. You will also play an active role in the wider life of the school, including contributing to our pastoral system and supporting extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities within the subject and beyond.
Consett Academy is part of New College Durham Academies Trust, a thriving and supportive Trust committed to excellence in education. We offer extensive opportunities for professional development, collaborative working with colleagues across the Trust, and clear pathways for career progression.
Whether you are an ECT looking to launch your career in a supportive environment, or an experienced teacher ready to lead and innovate, we would be delighted to hear from you. Join us at Consett Academy and be part of a dedicated team shaping the future of language education in our community.
Please note that we operate a probationary period of 6 months across all jobs in the Trust (see attached policy for further details). You will receive a comprehensive induction to support you to successfully pass your probation
