Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages job summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of Languages (French with Spanish or German) to deliver high-quality lessons that support students in achieving outstanding progress. The successful candidate will set clear learning targets, assess student progress with regular feedback, and ensure students are well-prepared for examinations. With a genuine passion for languages, you’ll help our students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, while staying up-to-date with current educational thinking. They will contribute to schemes of work, maintain a stimulating learning environment, and engage with parents and the wider school community. The role also involves taking responsibility for professional development and actively participating in school duties and performance management activities.

The Languages Faculty

This is a very lively and busy faculty of teachers and three language assistants. In addition to this, we have good links with local ITT providers and regularly host PGCE students.

The Head of Faculty is supported in the management of the faculty by heads of subject and is line managed by a member of the Senior Team.

On entry, all pupils currently study one from three languages: French, German and Spanish. All three languages are offered to GCSE level. In Year 9, students are given the opportunity to begin the study of Latin, which they can pursue to GCSE level in Year 10. Selected students with less aptitude for languages take a language qualification early at the end of Year 9, thus allowing them more flexibility with their option choices at KS4. All other students are encouraged to take an MFL GCSE at KS4. French, German and Spanish are all growing in number at 'A' and 'AS' Level.

At present new entrants are taught languages in tutor groups for an initial period. Pupils are assessed in October and placed in ability groups for languages. This is reviewed again during the year.

All MFL classrooms are equipped with an interactive whiteboard and the faculty subscribe to a number of on-line resources. There is adequate provision of textbooks for all Key Stages and we encourage the sharing of resources within the faculty. We make good use of the VLE to encourage independent learning both within and beyond the classroom.

We run residential trips to France, Germany and Spain.

What we are looking for:

  • Teachers who are passionate about improving students’ life chances.
  • Ability to contribute to a supportive and highly effective teaching team.
  • An enthusiasm for creative subjects and developing students’ potential.

What we offer:

  • A supportive team within a school that prioritises teaching and learning.
  • Opportunities to try new approaches, take risks, and have fun in the classroom.
  • A positive and collaborative atmosphere, focusing on strong relationships and personalised support for each student.
  • A Recruitment and Retention Allowance may be available for experienced candidates looking to develop leadership skills.

As a Partnership School, we are committed to professional development through our extensive CPD programme and ensure a healthy work/life balance with effective PPA allocation.
