What skills and experience we're looking for
As a Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages at Thistley Hough, we are seeking a teacher who has excellent subject knowledge and the determination to work in collaboration to drive the school to “outstanding”:
- Passionate Educator: You are a qualified teacher (QTS) with a degree in French and/or Spanish, dedicated to delivering engaging and effective lessons that inspire and challenge students.
- Experienced and Reflective: You have a proven track record of raising attainment in challenging classroom environments and continuously improving your teaching practice to enhance student achievement.
- Collaborative Colleague: You demonstrate the ability to lead and work within teams, contributing to the development of effective schemes of work and extra-curricular activities, and playing an active role in the wider school community.
- Committed to Excellence: You have high expectations for every pupil, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and a thorough understanding of safeguarding requirements and best practices.
What the school offers its staff
Thistley Hough Academy is a vibrant and diverse school catering for students aged 11-16 located in Penkhull, Stoke-on-Trent. A modern school with the ambition, drive and motivation to provide the best outcomes for its students. It is now one of Stoke-on-Trent’s most improved schools and continued to be graded Ofsted ‘good’ in May 2022. We pride ourselves on delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, so our students leave the academy ready to be positive and active members of the community.
A highly supportive and rapidly improving department (Progress 8 score improved by 0.91 points from 2023 to 2024). The department offers both French and Spanish across Key Stage 3 with GCSE French following the AQA curriculum. Focusing on offering dynamic teaching to develop skills for effective communication and independent production of language. The department utilises Pearson Active Learn and offer bespoke online vocabulary courses for the students.
