Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages job summary

Who WeST are:

WeST is a tight-knit family of schools based around natural geographical proximity in the south west. Initially formed as a small multi-academy trust of only two schools in 2011, the Trust as we know it today was launched in 2017 and now comprises 31 schools, of which 8 are secondary and 23 primary. We are ambitious and hold high expectations for the children in our care. We strive consistently to perform in the top 20% nationally.

WeST holds a firm belief in giving each child every opportunity to learn and succeed in all that they do. Whilst we are a family of schools who share common values and beliefs, all our schools are unique and hold their own identity. We believe that by working collectively, sharing what works well and jointly developing best practice, we are stronger together and can provide the very best education for our children in our geographical area.

The role:

All schools teach Edexcel at GCSE and MFL is highly valued by the Trust. Our schools offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities for MFL pupils, including in-house clubs, links with partner schools, and many residential visits to France, Germany, and Spain. The teachers across our WeST MFL departments are dedicated and enthusiastic specialist linguists who work closely together both within the department and have a strong network across the trust, supported by the Executive Director of MFL.

For applicants at the start of their career, our Early Career Framework Programme in partnership with Ambition Institute, provides an entitlement to two years of evidence-based development for teachers at the start of their career. The programme provides ECTs with 3 in-person conferences and 6 online clinics per year. It aims to develop knowledge, understanding and confidence, supporting ECTs with a range of strategies to help them thrive in their first years of teaching, creating a strong foundation for their future careers in the classroom.
