Canons High School is a vibrant and dynamic multicultural school community in Edgware, NW London. Our school is renowned for being one in which people matter. Relationships are strong, opportunities for progression are many and the personal and professional development of adults and children is at the heart of what we do. Our most recent Ofsted inspection in January 2023 judged us to be good in all areas, noting that students “feel valued”, that our “curriculum is ambitious”, that staff “workload is reasonable” and senior leaders “are approachable and care”.

At Canons, we pride ourselves on the training and development of all our staff so that students are taught effectively and supported within and beyond the classroom to the highest levels. School leaders at all levels are well-equipped to use their professional judgment and a wide range of information to challenge and engage all students to achieve success, identify underachievement, act upon it and help students get back on track. We offer a well-balanced three year KS3 programme that enables students to enjoy success in their GCSE exams, which begin in Year 10.

Within the Math Faculty we teach all year groups in classes shaped by an element of setting, although there is some range of prior attainment within each group. Students are currently set, from KS3 onwards based on KS2 results, CATs scores and internal assessments. Student progress is monitored regularly through a variety of assessment. Students requiring additional support are identified from as early as year 7 and the correct level of intervention is put in place for individuals and small groups.

Pupils study a challenging syllabus and develop their independent learning skills. We encourage pupils to challenge themselves and become good problem solvers from when they first arrive in preparation for GCSE and eventually A-level study. At GCSE and A-level, the department currently prepares pupils for the Edexcel syllabus. A-level mathematics has always been a very popular option with two full classes in each of the Sixth Form year groups.
