Teacher of Music job summary

Teacher of Music (MPS/UPS)

At Cedars, we have a strong reputation as a popular and high-performing school. Our achievements were further highlighted by the excellent set of results our students attained in both GCSE and A-Level examinations in summer 2025. Building on these successes, we are determined to reach new heights and aspire for an outstanding status. A large number of our sixth form students move onto Russell group Universities where they continue to flourish.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Music teacher to join a department that offers GCSE and A Level Music and Music Technology teaching. There is strong uptake from students at all levels within the curriculum, with consistently high attainment at KS4 and KS5.

There are a range of extra-curricular opportunities embedded within the department, which are often student-led. There is a renewed sense of momentum following a very successful orchestra and choir tour to Prague in July 2025, and commitments for the current academic year include a performance of Legally Blonde, engagement with We Compose, Bedfordshire Battle of the Bands, DJ performances, and annual Christmas concerts in the local community. We are also keen to support candidates' own musical passions within our extra-curricular programme moving forwards.

You will be joining a team passionate for their subject whose high expectations for our students’ enjoyment and progress drives their commitment to providing an engaging and inspirational curriculum in both Key Stages 4 and 5. The team is also dedicated to developing our students’ interest in music beyond the classroom with motivational curriculum-enriching opportunities.

Communication with Katrina Purcell (Head of Department) or Oliver Smith (Assistant Headteacher/Teacher of Music) is encouraged, and there is scope for discussions around flexible working arrangements and leadership opportunities across the wider school. If you would like to arrange an informal meeting and/or tour of the school, please contact Nicola McGiff (Schools Manager) via email at nmcgiff@cedarsupper.co.uk
