Teacher of Music job summary

About Corby Technical School and the Role

Corby Technical School is seeking an exceptional, experienced and inspiring Teacher of Music to join our thriving Performing Arts team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner who is ready not only to deliver high-quality classroom teaching, but to play a pivotal role in shaping and leading a vibrant, ambitious enrichment programme.

We are looking for a teacher who believes in the transformative power of music — someone who can ignite curiosity, nurture talent, and build a culture where music is celebrated across the school community. You will deliver an engaging and immersive Music curriculum that places performance, creativity and cultural diversity at its heart, while also taking a leading role in developing, expanding and sustaining a rich extra-curricular offer that extends far beyond the classroom.

This includes designing and growing ensembles, bands and performance groups, establishing regular concerts, showcases and community events, and creating opportunities for students to explore composition, production and live performance. You will play a key part in inspiring participation from students of all abilities and in shaping a coherent and exciting vision for music enrichment across the school. Supported by a leadership team that actively values the arts, you will have the opportunity to build something meaningful and lasting.

At Corby Technical School, Performing Arts is a growing and valued part of school life. We teach an engaging Music curriculum and believe strongly in immersive musical experiences. Students are encouraged to celebrate their own diversity and to embrace music from a wide range of traditions. They are creative, enthusiastic and eager to perform, thriving on encouragement and opportunity. Performance opportunities are expanding and are strongly supported and celebrated by senior leaders.

The Music department is housed in its own purpose-built area with practice rooms, storage and well-equipped teaching spaces. We are fortunate to offer extensive resources including a full samba kit, a class set of West African drums and ukuleles, two drum kits, three electric pianos, a baby grand piano and a range of guitars. We also have a suite of Apple Macs with MIDI keyboards and access to GarageBand and Logic Pro, enabling strong provision for music technology and composition.

We benefit from access to a team of technicians who support Performing Arts across our Trust secondary schools and can assist with both live and recorded performances, helping to bring ambitious productions and events to life.

Supported by the Head of Performing Arts, you will be given the freedom, trust and encouragement to be creative and to innovate. You will be working with students who, within the context of a technical school, thrive on opportunities to express themselves and engage deeply with the arts. This role is particularly well suited to well established teacher who is eager to take ownership of a developing area, broaden students’ musical experiences and leave a lasting legacy through a dynamic enrichment offer.

For the right candidate, part-time working would be considered.

At Corby Technical School we are motivated by:

  • Supporting our students to become the most employable students they can be and promoting lifelong learning
  • Providing our students with an ambitious and balanced curriculum, teaching core knowledge to secure foundations to enable excellent progress
  • Enhancing learning by providing opportunities for students to develop their character and cultural awareness
  • Teaching the core British values, encouraging students to become moral and confident contributors to society
  • Inspiring students to be resilient and motivated learners

We strive to embed an excitement and love for Music in all our students. With a curriculum built on developing substantive knowledge and embedding disciplinary knowledge; we look forward to broadening our students’ experiences both in and outside of the classroom.
