What the school offers its staff

Hawkley Hall is a high performing, heavily oversubscribed, mixed

comprehensive school of around 1160 students.

In June 2017, Hawkley Hall High School was awarded Teaching

School status and in April 2018 became the lead school of the

Greater Manchester Science Learning Partnership, part of the DfE

funded national network, STEM Learning.

We see successful education as a partnership between parents,

students and ourselves. Links with parents are of paramount

importance, with regular and frequent contact via parents’ evenings,

reports, newsletters and the school planner contributing to a

continuing dialogue about the education we provide for our children.

The school is situated in the south western part of Wigan, close to

the M6 motorway, in an area of substantial private development. A

wild fowl nature reserve borders the school grounds providing an

open attractive outlook to the site.

The Rowan Learning Trust (RLT) was established as a Multi-Academy

Trust in 2012 to maximise potential of all children, students and adults

in our schools and to support them in their journey to become

outstanding.

Currently the RLT family comprises six schools: three high schools, an

all-through alternative provision academy and two primary schools.

Together we share a set of common values:

• Mutual respect

• Fairness

• Equality of opportunity

• Individual growth

• Kindness

We believe in an inclusive workplace – one that is built on fairness,

merit and respect to help our employees perform to their greatest

potential.

Commitment to safeguarding

At Hawkley Hall High school, your child’s safety and wellbeing is very important to us. Our students regularly receive guidance and support in school about how to keep themselves safe but we recognise that sometimes, as parents and carers, you may also wish to seek advice or support regarding an issue which is affecting your child. This section of our school website will signpost you to resources and information that you may find helpful on a range of issues that affect our young people.

We are an 11 – 16 mixed comprehensive of around 1000 students and 150 staff situated to the west of Wigan. We are a community of students, staff, parents and governors with a common goal. We strive for the highest standards in everything we do.

We are proud of our positive, caring ethos based on a set of expectations we call ‘The Hawkley Way’ which has a fundamental principle at its heart; the principle of mutual respect. The students themselves coined the phrase in our code of conduct, ”Treat other people with respect to be respected in turn”. We believe this principle is essential for our happy and successful school community.

Hawkley Hall is a special place which has the highest expectations of our students ensuring that they achieve their potential. As an outstanding school, with National Support School and National Teaching School Status, our students and staff are provided with extensive opportunities.

Our success is built on core values of mutual respect as well as a clear understanding of the conditions required for effective learning. We have sustained our success because the following foundations are in place:

clear expectations of effort and behaviour
highly effective pastoral support
a culture of academic success and progress
high quality teaching
effective opportunities for student leadership to be developed
excellent buildings and resources that enhance learning
a broad and balanced curriculum
Our commitment to providing the best possible education means we are never satisfied and are always looking for opportunities to improve. We place high value on development and research and as a result we attract the best teachers and support staff.

We are always open to visitors and would be happy to welcome you into school so you can appreciate the Hawkley Way.
