Applications welcomed from ECTs and more experienced candidates

Heathside Walton-on-Thames, an Ofsted-rated Outstanding school, is entering an exciting phase of growth, and we are delighted to offer the opportunity for a dedicated Teacher of Music to join our thriving Creative Arts faculty. We are seeking an enthusiastic musician who is passionate about developing students’ musical skills, creativity, and appreciation of music across a wide range of styles and traditions.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing Music to life: leading engaging practical lessons, developing performance and composition skills, and inspiring students to understand the role of music in culture, society, and personal expression. Our music department promotes active participation, technical skill development, and confident musical thinking. Students are encouraged to perform, compose, listen critically, and develop a secure understanding of musical elements, notation, and genre.

As a valued member of our music team, you will benefit from:

Opportunities to shape and develop the department: Play a central role in strengthening our music provision as the school continues to grow.

Career growth and development: Access to high-quality CPD, mentorship, and clear routes for progression.

A meaningful impact on young people: Help develop confident, creative, and culturally aware young people through high-quality music education.

We strongly encourage interested candidates to arrange an informal tour of the school. Experiencing our music facilities, dynamic learning spaces, and passionate staff team is the best way to understand our ethos. To arrange a visit, please contact the Head of School, Mr Clark, via email at smcgonigal@heathsidewalton.org.

The successful candidate will:

Teach Music confidently across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging lessons rooted in secure subject knowledge

Develop students’ performance, composition, and listening skills through practical work and creative exploration

Plan creative, carefully structured lessons that develop musical understanding, technique, and confidence

Use effective assessment strategies to support progress in musical skills, knowledge, and creativity

Differentiate teaching to ensure all learners—from beginners to highly skilled musicians—can access, enjoy, and excel in Music

Contribute to a rich extracurricular programme, such as choirs, ensembles, concerts, school productions, or music clubs

We are deeply proud of the welcoming, aspirational culture we have built. With outstanding staff retention, this role forms part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that every class is taught by a subject specialist as we continue to grow.
