What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Teacher of Music with a love of education to encourage all pupils to make progress in this subject. There are currently 2 highly committed teachers who strive for excellence, and foster a love for music, contributing to the wider academic life of the school.

The music department comprises of two dedicated teaching rooms with three practice rooms. One room is set up for performance and the other for more traditional teaching with a full set of computers equipped with Sibelius software. As a school we support music tuition across the school, host music concerts throughout the year, and we are proud of our annual Year 7 tutor choir competition where all 210 pupils take part.

We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:

  • Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academically
  • Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupils
  • Have excellent subject knowledge
  • Be willing to teach across the full age range of pupils;year 7 to year 11
  • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the Department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
  • Make a positive contribution to the efficient running of the department, including, setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks as delegated by the Curriculum Leader
  • Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • Support the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learning
  • Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures

Person Specification:

  • Good level degree in a directly related subject (desirable)
  • Thorough knowledge of the (13-16) subject Curriculum (GCSE)
  • Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
  • Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice
  • Good level of IT literacy
  • Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school
  • Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils
  • Excellent and effective classroom management skills
  • Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
  • Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines
  • Have a good sense of humour
