What skills and experience we're looking for
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Well-qualified to teach PE and Dance across all Key Stages, with Qualified Teacher Status.
- Experienced in delivering a range of qualifications including GCSE PE (OCR), Sports Coaching and Principles (WJEC Eduqas), BTEC Performing Arts – Dance (Pearson), OCR Cambridge Technical (Level 3) in Dance (Performing Arts), and Sport and Physical Activity.
- Passionate about promoting physical activity and performance.
- Committed to inclusive practice and supporting students of all abilities.
- Enthusiastic about contributing to the wider life of the school through clubs, trips and event.
- A reflective practitioner who is keen to develop professionally.
Head of Year Candidates Will Be
- A confident and compassionate leader with experience in pastoral care and team management.
- Someone who can inspire students, uphold high expectations, and contribute to the wider pastoral development of the school.
What the school offers its staff
Our PE and Dance department is vibrant and inclusive, offering a wide range of team and individual sports at Key Stage 3 and 4, including rugby, football, table tennis, netball, dance, basketball, handball, badminton, volleyball, gymnastics, trampolining, cricket, tennis, athletics and rounders.
At Key Stage 5, students can continue their studies with vocational Level 3 qualifications in Dance and Sport & Physical Activity. GCSE PE is also available via our shared Sixth Form with Hampton College.
Our extra-curricular programme is extensive, with lunchtime and after-school clubs, interform competitions, and partnerships with external coaches including Cricket East, Peterborough United, GB Talent ID Rowing, and Table Tennis. Department trips have included visits to the Copper Box Arena (Netball Fast5), Spurs Stadium, Silverstone Grand Prix (Dance performance), and Outdoor Adventurous Activities at Grafham Water.

We are seeking a full-time Teacher of PE and Dance to join our dynamic and supportive team on a maternity cover basis from January 2026. In addition, a Head of Year responsibility (TLR 2C)is available for the right candidate. Applicants who wish to be considered for this additional leadership role should clearly indicate this in their application.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Teaching PE and Dance across Key Stages 3–5.
- Delivering a range of examination courses including GCSE, vocational Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.
- Supporting and leading extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities.
- Contributing to curriculum development and departmental initiatives.
- Promoting high standards of behaviour and engagement in lessons and around school.
- Collaborating with colleagues across departments to support cross-curricular initiatives.
Additional Head of Year Responsibilities Include:
- Leading a year group, managing a team of form tutors and a Student Support Officer to support student wellbeing, behaviour, and academic progress.
- Delivering assemblies, overseeing attendance and behaviour, and working closely with families and external agencies to ensure students are supported holistically.

Hampton Gardens is an 11-19 free school which opened in September 2017 to an initial intake of 180 Year 7 students. When full, the school will accommodate 1200 students in years 7-11 and 300 students in Sixth Form.
Hampton Gardens is part of the Hampton Academies Trust who also run the highly successful and popular Hampton College all-through school, Hampton Lakes Primary School and Dogsthorpe Infant School. HAT schools have very close links and some shared staff.
