The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled teacher to join the dynamic team at Bohunt Farnborough, with a dual focus on Science and Physical Education. We place a strong emphasis on both subjects, recognising their vital role in developing well-rounded, curious, and resilient learners. Our PE department offers a wide range of sporting activities, with all students actively participating in lessons, while our Science curriculum fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the world around us.
We are keen to appoint the best teacher for this unique role, and therefore you will need to demonstrate both excellent sporting ability and strong subject knowledge in Science. The Heads of Department are passionate about their subjects and are looking for someone who can deliver engaging, enjoyable, and challenging lessons that inspire rapid progress across both disciplines. Teachers who are passionate about their subjects motivate students—so you will need to show a genuine enthusiasm for physical activity and scientific exploration, and a commitment to engaging all students. A keen interest in extra-curricular activities is expected, with a willingness to run clubs in either or both subject areas.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and skilled sports person who is keen to make a difference to students' lives through a passion for sport. You should have a good understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of PE and a desire to continually develop as a teacher. This role would suit either an ECT and an experienced teacher.
You will:
have a passion for Physical Education, Sport and Science, which is evident in your teaching
demonstrate the ability to consistently deliver inspirational learning experiences for students
have an understanding of how to promote effective and inclusive teaching and learning
be able to evidence success in raising student achievement across a broad range of abilities through successful assessment, monitoring and evaluation of student progress, and the range of strategies that could be used to address underachievement
possess good communication skills with students, colleagues and parents
demonstrate a strong desire to undertake Continuing Professional Development to inform teaching
The PE Department
The Physical Education department has 3 members of staff who all teach a wide range of sports. Bohunt Farnborough has good sports facilities, with extensive football pitches, a modern Sports Hall, large Fitness Suite, a School Gym and outside courts for netball and tennis. PE is popular and a number of students study it at GCSE. The Head of Department is highly experienced and you would be joining a passionate team who can support a new member of the team.
The Science Department
The Science Department is a strong and improving department; teachers and leaders have worked tirelessly to drive up standards of achievement and attainment. The department comprises a Head of Department and four teachers. Science is enjoyed by students, as are the STEM days working with companies such as McLaren and The Smallpeice Trust. Students currently study combined science, however the aim is to move to offering Triple science for our most able scientists.
