The Physical Education Faculty

We are seeking to appoint a new colleague into the PE Faculty in 2025. Following the appointment, the Faculty will comprise of eight full-time specialists. Many hold additional responsibilities including Deputy Headteacher, two Heads of Year and two Deputy Heads of Year. You will join us at an exciting time with the recent addition of an astroturf, refurbished Fitness Suite and multi-purpose athletics facility; in all, an investment of more than £350,000 to develop facilities within the Faculty.

The Physical Education Faculty has a long and consistent track record of achieving excellent student outcomes at GCSE and A-Level. GCSE PE is a growing subject with 3 groups in Year 10 & 2 groups in Year 11. At A-Level, numbers have increased with 14 students in Year 12 this September; the subject is always a popular choice.

At GCSE level the 2024 results were 8.6% Grade 9, 46.6% Grade 7-9, 96.6% Grade 9-4. At A-level the 2024 results were 14.6% A*-A, 100% A*-C. These standards of attainment bear scrutiny against all other selective schools in the region.  The AQA syllabus is followed for both courses.

The Faculty is a highly cohesive and supportive team of able and committed professionals who enjoy their work and take a collaborative and collegiate approach.  For a teacher who is enthusiastic about their subject and wishes to develop their pedagogy with keen, well-disciplined students, this is a fantastic opportunity.

Games contribute a significant part of the curriculum; the boys specialise in Football, Basketball and Rugby and the girls specialise in Hockey, Netball and Football.  The summer term focuses on Cricket, Tennis and Athletics for all students. The Faculty seeks to provide opportunities for both the more able and the less able and recognises the progress made by all, at its annual Sports Presentation Evening.  The Faculty is a very active member of the South Lincolnshire School Sports Association and members of the Faculty hold positions of responsibilities within it.  The School competes in a range of local tournaments and has an excellent reputation at local, county, regional and national level. For 20 years the School has attended National finals in Athletics or Cross-country. Our Netball, Football, Hockey and Rugby teams also all compete at regional and national level on a regular basis with more than 50 students representing either the County, Region or Country.

The Faculty has an extensive extra-curricular programme and is well respected within the region, arguably being the most successful State School for sport in the county and region.  Since 2013 the School has appeared in the top 200 State Schools for Sport on several occasions, reaching 24th in 2018. The successful candidate would be expected to contribute fully to this aspect of school life.

The Faculty actively promotes extra-curricular sports tours and have included in recent years:

Ski Trip – Italy annually since 2008

Girls’ Football Tour – Disneyland, Paris 2016

Netball Tour – Barbados – 2017

Residential GCSE PE trip – Skipton, Yorkshire – annually

The atmosphere is special and cherished by us all and something that interview candidates often remark upon. We are a large and busy school and our students are well-behaved, motivated and want to be here and their parents/carers want them to be here.
