Darton Academy are looking to appoint a Teacher of Gilrs PE to join our academy from September 2026 on a full-time basis.

This role presents a fantastic opportunity for any candidate who wishes to take their career to the next level. You will join a talented team and benefit from all the advantages of working for a multi academy trust. As a result of our journey of continuous improvement Darton Academy continues to outperform all other local schools and is now the highest performing school in the area having achieved an above national average Progress 8 score of 0.37 in the Summer 2024. Pupils at Darton Academy made nearly half a grade more progress than those with similar KS2 starting points.

In Summer 2025, Darton Academy pupils achieved results well above both local and national averages. This year, the Academy has also secured the highest attainment in Barnsley for both 5+ (strong passes in English and mathematics) and 4+. We are proud that 65% of pupils achieved a Grade 5 or above in both English and mathematics combined and 79% achieved a Grade 4 or above. In mathematics, 71% of pupils achieved a grade 5 or above which places us in the top 2% of maintained schools in Yorkshire.

Sport continues to be a real strength at Darton Academy, with pupils achieving highly across both academic and vocational pathways. OCR Cambridge National Sport Studies achieved an exceptional progress score of +0.90 in 2024. In 2025, 81% of pupils secured at least a Grade 4 equivalent, 60% achieved a Grade 5 or above, and 40% attained the highest grades of 7 or above. These outcomes reflect the academy’s commitment to high-quality PE and sport provision, alongside the extensive opportunities available through Delta Academies Trust’s Sporting Pathways programme.

The academy also benefits from outstanding sporting facilities that enable pupils to participate, train and compete across a wide range of activities. Our extensive site includes a 3G all-weather astro pitch, MUGA, large sports hall, small fitness gym, dance studio, trampolines, four grass football pitches, three rounders pitches, a rugby pitch and a full athletics track. These facilities support both the curriculum and an extensive extra-curricular programme.

As part of Delta Academies Trust, staff and pupils benefit from the Trust’s ambitious Sporting Pathways programme. This innovative programme provides pupils with extensive opportunities to enjoy, participate, compete and represent their academy across a wide range of sporting activities, supported by significant investment in facilities, enrichment and staff development. The Trust is proud to have Jason Robinson, the former England rugby union and rugby league international who was part of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup-winning team, as Patron of Delta Academies Trust. Jason works closely with our academies to champion the Trust’s vision of providing direction, belief and opportunity for young people, particularly within some of the most disadvantaged communities across the region.

If you love your subject and are passionate about developing pedagogy and practice, then this is the job for you.
