What skills and experience we're looking for

Qualified Teacher Status

A degree in PE/Outdoor Education or a closely related discipline

A willingness to undertake further relevant training and to pass those skills on to other members of staff as appropriate

A clear understanding of the subject’s curriculum and examination specifications across KS3 & 4

A clear understanding of the subject’s curriculum and examination specifications across KS5

Sound knowledge of the developments in the current curriculum for the subject

Ability to teach across areas in the wider curriculum

An ability to use different teaching methods and adapt to cater for pupils’ different needs.

Knowledge of effective intervention strategies to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Knowledge of/experience in conducting assessments, keeping records and producing reports on pupils

Good ICT skills

Experience

The Lakes School is seeking to employ a permanent outstanding female teacher of PE from 1st September 2026. We would welcome applications from outstanding candidates who are interested in making a long-term commitment to the school in the beautiful surroundings of Windermere.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach across the ability and age range, including GCSE and A Level PE, and will join experienced colleagues within the school. The post would be suitable for an ECT.

We are a high achieving, fully comprehensive school; a dynamic and innovative centre at the heart of the Lake District where all pupils are encouraged to climb their own mountains. The Lakes School was graded good in all areas by OFSTED in January 2025.

We are seeking an outstanding practitioner to teach PE with the commitment and energy to inspire our students. The PE team is highly experienced and provides a wide ranging core curriculum, examination offer and enrichment programme. CPD will be available for an outstanding candidate to develop their teaching craft at A-level if required. Student outcomes in PE have remained strong with many students moving on to further study in the field of PE, Sport and Outdoor Education. The requirement for a female teacher of PE is due to the nature of the staffing in the department and the requirement to supervise female students. The ability to teach a second subject is essential; experience in teaching Outdoor Education would be welcomed, the school may be able to respond flexibly to the second specialism of an outstanding candidate.
