What skills and experience we're looking for

The Directors of Uffculme Academy Trust are seeking to appoint a temporary Teacher of PE to join our Outstanding school from January 2023. This vacancy would be particularly suitable for an EQT, but RQTs and more experienced teachers are also welcome to apply.

PE is a key part of our success story both in terms of the outstanding outcomes that students achieve, and the high levels of participation that are seen across all year groups. In recent years GCSE PE students have typically achieved two grades above the national expectations for their ability, with extremely high numbers regularly participating in extra-curricular sport and activities each week.

Whilst our examination results speak for themselves, they don’t tell the whole story. They are based on a culture of high expectations; exceptional levels of student participation and active involvement in the life of the school; and great relationships between staff and students. We make no apologies for wanting it all as a school: happy staff, happy students, outstanding results, amazing opportunities, and a culture which rewards and values success in all its forms.

The successful candidate will be, or have the potential to be, an outstanding teacher who inspires and motivates and who is able to deliver the exceptional results which we have come to expect from our students. A full contribution to the department’s extensive extra-curricular programme will therefore be expected. The ability to drive a minibus, whilst not essential, would be advantageous.

In return we can offer you support from an excellent team of colleagues where morale is high, fantastic facilities and young people who genuinely want to learn.

What the school offers its staff

Uffculme is a flourishing, popular, high performing School located on the beautiful Devon/Somerset border with easy motorway access to the regional centres of Taunton and Exeter. The February 2014 OfSTED inspection classed the school as ‘Outstanding’. Uffculme is fully comprehensive and committed to inclusion. In 2019 (the last year when league tables were issued) our Progress 8 score was +0.7 with disadvantaged students achieving +0.47, maintaining our track-record as being one of the highest performing non-selective schools in the country. Consequently, we have received many national awards and accolades over recent times in recognition of the quality of the education provided here at Uffculme.

Commitment to safeguarding

Uffculme School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.

As part of our due diligence process when shortlisting, we may carry out an online search of publicly available material to identify any incidents or issues which we might want to explore with the applicant at interview.
