What skills and experience we're looking for

If you are an outstanding Performing Arts teacher, or determined to become one, we would very much like to hear from you. You will be able to teach Music, Drama and Dance, but be a specialist in one of these disciplines. You will join an excellent team, strongly committed to reflecting on its teaching techniques and sharing excellent resources.

The Performing Arts Faculty is bursting with opportunities, including exciting extracurricular activities, regular showcase performances and a bi-annual production. We work closely with the Hampshire Music Service and are developing an exciting portfolio of trips.

We are committed to investing in the continuous professional development and training of our staff, and to their wellbeing.

The successful candidate must have good organization and communication skills and embrace school life. They need to be a good team player and able to support the Subject Leader in implementing relevant curriculum and assessment change.

The School
John Hanson is a comprehensive community school for students aged 11 – 16. There are currently 980 students on roll; the teaching establishment is around 55 teachers, 55 support staff and a strong sense of community. The Leadership team are totally committed to the principles of comprehensive education and providing the very best learning experience we can for each individual. It is the school’s role to ensure that all students and staff are supported to reach their full potential.

The school can trace its origins back to 1569 with the foundation of Andover Grammar School. In the 1970s the grammar school became a comprehensive school and was renamed John Hanson School after an original benefactor of the Grammar School. In 2002 the school relocated to a greenfield site towards the outskirts of Andover, very close to the A303.
