DGS Personal Development Department
The Personal Development (PD) Department is a high profile, well established, award winning department which delivers PSHE, Citizenship and Careers in discrete lessons and via extracurricular activities.
Curriculum
The focus of the department, as well as fulfilling the increasing statutory requirements of PSHE, Citizenship and Careers, is to deliver broad, engaging and meaningful content that has impact.
• Our PSHE delivery aims to keep our pupils safe, to manage risk and to make informed decisions surrounding their lifestyle.
• Our Citizenship delivery aims to broaden our pupil’s knowledge and awareness of societal issues; including local, national and global issues and also to encourage our students to become active citizens willing to engage in their communities.
• Our Career delivery aims to empower pupils so that they can make informed decisions about their future at key transition points such as Options, Further Education and eventually onto employment, and also to inspire our students onto challenging and fulfilling careers. We also aim to expose them to the world of work and employers as often as we can to enhance their work confidence and increase their employability.
The curriculum is well planned, fully resourced and constantly refined to best meet the needs of students and an ever-changing society.
Outcomes
There is no GCSE obtained through PD directly although the department does deliver an optional Citizenship GCSE which historically has obtained some of the best results and outcomes in school, with pupils performing significantly above the national average.
The Post
This is a key post in a strong and innovative department. We are looking for a candidate with the skills and desire to lead this successful department onto the next stage in its development and a teacher with a genuine and infectious passion for teaching Personal Development; a teacher with high expectations for all students whatever their prior attainment.

Summer 2019 GCSE results were superb with 80% of all students achieving 4+ in English and Maths, and 65% doing the same at 5+. Our Attainment 8 figure was significantly above national average at 54.4 and our Progress 8 of +0.71 places us the top 3% of schools nationally. Results at A level in the mixed sixth form shared with our partner school, St Birinus School, are also extremely strong.
